Last year I began a journey of attempting to qualify for the Boston Marathon. To make a long story short, I was derailed. Today I’m pleased to announce that I’m back on track and running strong. For the next two years, this blog will be dedicated to the journey of a normal guy and all of the wonderful people in his life, trying to make this dream a reality. The process always ends up being as much fun as the end result and I hope you find that true while reading along with me.
The journey for me is about pushing the limits of my physical ability, having fun and challenging myself. It’s also about walking with God and learning life lessons through the process. As we enter a critical time in human history, the church must have a vision, live disciplined and endure hardship (while still being the most joyful people on the planet). It will take nothing less than a fierce resolve and focus to fulfill our destiny. Training for a marathon is like a mini parable for the preparation we will need, and I’m betting I will glean many nuggets of insight along the way.
My goals are to run several short races this summer, leading up to a half marathon this year which is TBD. I’ll probably do several 5k’s and the Bix 7 leading up to running the half. I haven’t decided what I’ll do next year after the half, but I will then be aiming for the Chicago marathon in October of 2010 as the qualifying race for Boston. I’m excited that I’ll be going back to Denver on Monday, because I’ll have two weeks to run at altitude. Look for several posts to come from Denver. So… here we go! Follow along with me, get some friends to read, maybe even set some goals of your own (athletic or otherwise) and share them in the comments.
